Alex Piers
Alex Piers is the founder and manager of npm, a label established with the intention of presenting a broad spectrum of underground electronic music without being confined to a single sound. Drawn equally to house, techno, ambient and experimental music, he created the label as a platform for artists whose work sits outside predictable genre boundaries.
Alongside his work as a DJ, Alex produces under his own name. His ambient composition Soa, released on npm, saw all proceeds donated to a Ukrainian humanitarian charity and was later featured as part of LOEWE’s Spring/Summer 2023 Men’s runway collection, introducing his music to an audience beyond the club.
In 2025, Alex spoke with CLOT Magazine about the origins of npm, his attraction to strange and unconventional forms of sound, and the importance of risk, experimentation and artistic freedom within the label’s work.
Away from the label, Alex has worked extensively in broadcast audio for BBC Radio 6 Music.
